Types of MMA Betting
The thrill of a MMA fight is enough to keep anyone hooked, but betting on these matches takes the experience to another level. Online sportsbooks are the preferred platform for placing MMA bets, as they offer a wide range of options and up-to-date odds. However, it is crucial to understand the different types of MMA bets before you place your first wager.
Moneyline bets: This is the most common MMA betting type and simply involves choosing which fighter you think will win the fight. The odds will show the amount you can win on your bet, with a favorite indicated by a minus sign (-) and an underdog represented by a plus sign (+). The greater the discrepancy between the odds, the more likely you are to make a winning bet.
Over/Under bets: These bets involve wagering on the number of rounds a match will last. Depending on the matchup, fighter styles and the number of rounds scheduled, oddsmakers will set an Over/Under total for the fight. You can then bet on whether the fight will end in more rounds than that number or less. For example, if two aggressive fighters are fighting, the oddsmakers may set an Over/Under for the fight at 1.5 rounds.
Parlays (accumulators): Parlays allow you to combine multiple bets into a single wager with the potential for a larger payout. However, all bets in a parlay must win for the bet to pay out.
Method of victory: These bets require a deeper understanding of the fighters’ skills and styles. They can include wagers on which round the fight will end, whether the fighter will win via knockout, submission or a judge’s decision. These bets are typically harder to win than the other bets and can result in some big payouts.
Props: These are bets on specific occurrences during a fight, such as who will score the first knockdown or attempt the first submission maneuver. They can be fun to place, but you should be wary of the odds and understand that these bets have a lower payout than the other bets.
Live betting: Mma live betting is one of the best ways to take advantage of great odds that the sportsbooks missed. It requires quick thinking and careful analysis of the action, but can be a good way to capitalize on sudden momentum shifts.
Successful mma betting doesn’t have to be a shot in the dark, as long as you take the time to study the fighters and their history in the octagon. A thorough understanding of fighters’ histories, styles, recent performances, injuries and even weight and reach differences is key to making informed bets. Keeping up with fighter camps can also be very helpful. By following their training, you can see if they’re slowing down or looking like they’re having trouble making weight or coping with any other issues that might impact their performance.
