A Domino Glossary Can Help You Understand the Rules and Symbolism of Dominoes
The game of dominoes is a family of tile-based games. Its pieces are rectangular tiles with two square ends marked with spots. The game involves forming groups of tiles with matching numbers. Once you complete the set, you win. You can also play variations of the game. For more information about the game, visit our Glossary.
Origins
The Origins of Domino comic book series follows the adventures of a young super human named Domino. Born as a result of a government experiment to create super soldiers, Domino was genetically altered to become superhuman. However, the government abandoned the project after several years and left Domino with a priest in Chicago. Over time, the comic book series gained popularity, and has since spread to other parts of the world.
There are several theories regarding the invention of the domino. The most popular theory is that the game originated in China, but it is unclear exactly when. Evidence suggests that the game was played as early as 1120AD in China. However, some historians claim that the game was first played between 181 and 234 CE.
Rules
The basic rules of domino are easy enough to understand even for a novice player. Each player starts with a set of seven tiles, which he or she must line up against their opponent. Players must alternately extend their lines of play. The player who ends up with more tiles wins the hand. If one player has less tiles than the other, he or she draws from the remaining tiles.
The first player must place a tile on the playing surface and the player following him or her must try to match the tile with an adjacent open tile. If the tiles match, doubles are scored. However, in some variations, doubles only count if they are joined at the middle. When a player does not have any dominoes, he or she must draw a tile from one of the unused ones.
Variations
Many different variants of the domino game exist. While the basic goal of the game is the same, the rules vary from one version to the next. For example, in one variation, doubles may be placed anywhere along the playing line, and doubles on one tile do not always form a line. Other variations will allow players to block the line of play by placing doubles on an opposite tile.
The game can be made more exciting by using different combinations of doubles. A player can also use doubles to spin tiles. Doubles allow the player to play on all four sides and in additional directions.
Glossary
A domino glossary can help you learn the language of the game and understand the rules better. The list of terms is organized alphabetically and by meaning. Some terms are regionally specific and some are general. You should be able to find a definition for a domino term in any online dictionary.
In solitaire games, the tiles used for playing are called “bones”, “men,” and “bricks.” Some regions, such as the Southwestern United States, use the word “stones” instead. Other countries use the term “boxes” and “rocks” instead of “bricks”. The Trains family of domino games uses the term “cars” or “engine.” Other games may use terms such as “blank” and “white” to refer to the tiles.
Symbolism
There are many different interpretations of the symbolism of dominoes. For some people, dominoes represent death, ungodliness, and interconnectedness. Others associate dominoes with the Mexican gangs. But no matter what the interpretation of dominoes is, you should know that they represent chance, entertainment, and interconnectedness.
Dreams containing dominoes may offer valuable insight into your life. For example, if you dreamed about knocking down a domino, you may be unable to accept defeat. The dream may also reveal that you have difficulties relaxing or achieving success. However, dreams involving dominoes may also indicate that you are resourceful and cautious.
